Sumatra to improve Java performance

OpenJDK’s fresh Project Sumatra aims to improve Java performance by using GPU and APU hardware acceleration. It uses features and libraries from Java 8’s Lambda Project (expressions to improve multi-core support) and Oracle’s HotSpot JVM. They say it will be relatively simple to upgrade current applications to support this kind of acceleration.
